The Paul Ivanier Center for Robotics Research and Production
Management is an interdisciplinary framework for the advancement of
research and education in the design and applications of robotics,
automated production, artificial intelligence, and production
management tools.
The Center was founded in 1988 within the Faculty of Engineering
Sciences. It has an active participation of approximately 60 faculty
members primarily from the departments of Industrial Engineering and
Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, and Computer Science.
Research interests of the center members include areas such as
control theory, computer aided design and manufacturing, kinematics
and dynamics of robotic systems, artificial intelligence, and
automatic storage and retrieval systems. Most of the
Center-supported research is conducted in the laboratories of the
individual members.
The Center
supported member activities in three ways: equipment for research
and teaching, research paper publishing costs, and support for
conference organization.
The Center supported research projects of members on an individual
basis. Members of the Center submitted research proposals including
budgets. The proposals were evaluated by the Steering Committee for
fund allocation. Preference was given to purchase of equipment that
will be used by members from different departments, and in
particular, in joint projects.
