After
studying Physics and Mathematics for a BA at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and
Electro-Optical Engineering for an MSc at Tel-Aviv
University, I completed a PhD (1996) in Computer Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU),
Israel. During the time after obtaining my BA, I spent some years doing
research and development in Electro-Optics in different environments.
As a Research Fellow, I spent two years (1996-1998) at the Neural Computing Research Group at Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and another two years (1998-2000) at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, UK. In addition, I lectured in the Computer Science Department at Anglia University, Cambridge, UK in 2000.
In September 2000, I joined Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. I became a Senior Lecturer in October 2003 and an Associate Professor in December 2011 in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) at the same university.
In 2018, I co-founded the Master Program in Data Science at IEM, and since then I have been the Head of the program.
Between 2019 and 2023, I was on the steering committee of BGU's Data Science Center.
I have been on the editorial boards of Digital, AppliedMath, International Journal of Applied Intelligence, and Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
I have supervised more than 60 graduate students and published more than 120 papers in journals and peer-reviewed conferences.
In 2022, I founded Panacea-ml, streamlining clinical trials, a BGU spin-off company, and since then I am its Chief Science Officer.
In 2024, I joined the IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence as an Associate Editor.
